We understand that for our Muslim guests, Halal is not simply a menu preference. It matters how ingredients are sourced, prepared and handled.
At 1947 Eatery, we take that responsibility seriously. Our meat is sourced from Halal suppliers and we take care to ensure the ingredients used in our kitchen are Halal or suitable for Halal preparation.
Our kitchen team understands the importance of Halal food preparation and the confidence our Muslim guests place in us when choosing where to dine.
It goes beyond the meat.
For us, serving Halal food means considering the ingredients that go into the complete dish — not simply whether the chicken or lamb is Halal.
From the proteins we purchase to the ingredients used by our chefs, our approach is intended to give Muslim diners confidence when eating at 1947.
Halal meat from trusted suppliers.
Lamb
Our lamb is sourced through trusted Halal meat suppliers, with supply selected from FIANZ-certified sources.
We have traditionally worked with trusted Halal butchers including Khan’s Halal in Blockhouse Bay for the premium cuts required by our kitchen.
Chicken
Our chicken is sourced from Halal-certified supply, including Best Bird, a FIANZ-certified poultry supplier.
This allows our kitchen to prepare our chicken dishes using meat sourced specifically with our Muslim guests in mind.
Ingredients
Halal considerations extend beyond meat. We take care with the ingredients used throughout our cooking and our chefs are aware of the requirements surrounding Halal preparation.

A note about FIANZ certification.
We believe our Muslim guests deserve clear information rather than assumptions.
1947 Eatery previously applied for FIANZ certification. While FIANZ provided guidance through the process, certification of the restaurant was not granted because 1947 has a bar onsite.
The bar operates separately from our kitchen. Alcohol used by the bar is not part of our Halal food preparation, and our kitchen maintains its own food preparation practices.
We therefore do not represent 1947 Eatery itself as a FIANZ-certified restaurant.

We recognise that individual guests may have different requirements or levels of comfort when dining at a restaurant that also operates a bar.
