OUR STORY
Built on a belief that Indian food deserved more.
1947 Eatery began with a simple conviction: Indian food could be authentic, refined and worthy of celebration.
While working as an IT engineer in Auckland, founder Areeb Mirza stumbled across a small, dimly lit restaurant site beneath the shadow of the Sky Tower — a place few others wanted.
What began as a leap of faith became a shared vision. A hand-picked team, authentic cooking, serious cocktails and a determination to challenge the idea of Indian food as “cheap eats” quickly found an audience.
Nearly a decade later, 1947 Eatery welcomes more than 2,000 guests a week, while the same team spirit continues to drive what comes next.
